Thanksgiving Greetings - 1910

This Thanksgiving card is from M.W. Taggert publishers in New York. They were a large publisher if greeting and holiday cards from 1905-1910. This card as was many of their others is embossed....I love the  knife and fork in the top left corner. Perhaps there just in case there was any doubt as to this birds future!

Bekins Van and Storage - 1911

Bekins Van Lines was founded in 1891 in Sioux City, Iowa, by two young Dutch immigrant brothers, Martin and John Bekins. Martin moved west four years later, first to Omaha, Neb., and then Los Angeles.

In its heyday the Bekins Co. owned more than 100 storage buildings in 14 states. In an attempt to streamline its operations in the face of stiff competition, Bekins began selling off its real estate in the early 1980s. By 1983, when purchased by Minstar Inc. of Minneapolis, Minn., Bekins' stock of warehouses had been reduced to 55.

New York Zoological Park

A few more cards (by popular demand) from my NYZP collection. Not particularly valuable cards but I've always liked the way they looked.

The caption says "Handling Python"...Whose handling who?

Why wouldn't they create a mountain habitat for mountain goats as opposed to having them climb on a log cabin?...maybe they're actually Cabin Goats?

Weighing a Baby Orang - New York Zoological Park

This organization is more commonly referred to as the Bronx Zoo which opened in 1899. They published a great many postcards of zoo animals through a variety of printers. The Rotogravure Company printed a fine collotype card set for them in black & white and with color tints though their name does not appear on these cards. The Detroit Publishing Company also produced sets for them. 

"Monkey" Business

Two linens showing Chimpanzees performing at there respective zoos. 

The 2 at the piano remind me of an old photo of the Gershwins!

On a more "serious" note, the chimp below gets his nails done.
