Steamship Eastland and Chicago River
I've run across another Eastland
Steamer postcard that I've added to my collection. The Eastland was a steamer
that has quite a history. This card was printed in Germany by the Hugh C.
Leighton Co. (1906-1909) of Portland, Maine. If you haven't seen my

Yes, quite a history. It's hard to fathom (pardon the pun) how the construction of such a large vessel could be so poorly designed. Clearly a lot of thought had to go into its planning....how did they not see that it was top-heavy?! It's also amazing that, given the loss of life, that the incident is all but forgotten.
